English Bull Terrier

October 27, 2011 12:11pm

The English Bull Terrier is known for its small triangular eyes, “jaunty gait”, and their large, egg-shaped head. Bull terriers are famed for their courage and will always defend their owners in a critical situation. The breed is also fun-loving, clownish, scrappy. A very active dog, not prone to relaxing in dog beds for very long, Bull Terriers must be given a great deal of physical exercise otherwise they become too energetic for young children.

Bull Terriers demand a very particular type of owner. The breed requires firm and consistent leadership. Meek owners will soon find that their Bull Terrier has become possessive, willful, jealous and extremely protective. The owner must also provide their Bull Terrier with a lot of structure. Males and females co-exist happily and two females can also co-exist easily under proper care and supervision.

In Afrikaans, the name for the Bull Terrier is Varkhond which literally translate to ‘Pig-dog’. The breed has appeared in numerous films such as: Trainspotting, Oliver!, Toy Story, Babe: Pig in the City, Derailed, Bulletproof, A Dog’s Life and The Incredible Journey.
